Dental implants in Turkey: your questions answered
Short answers to the questions we're asked most. Each one links to a fuller guide if you want the detail.
About these answers
These answers are written in plain English and reviewed by an implant dentist. They're general information, not advice about your own mouth. For that, you need an examination and an X-ray.
Common questions
Why are implants cheaper in Turkey?
Mainly because running costs such as rent, wages and laboratory fees are lower. A good quote names the same international implant brands used in the UK. Read the cost guide.
Is it safe to have implants in Turkey?
There are well-run clinics in Turkey, but standards vary and problems are harder to deal with from home. UK advice is to talk to your own dentist first, check the clinic is approved on Health Türkiye, and get everything in writing. Read the safety guide.
How many trips will I need?
Usually two. Implants are placed on the first trip, they heal for around four months, and your final teeth are fitted on the second trip. See the journey.
How long will I stay each time?
It depends on your plan. Ask for the number of days for each trip in writing before you book flights.
Does it hurt?
Implants are placed under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn't feel pain during the procedure. Some swelling and soreness for a few days afterwards is normal.
Can I get implants on the NHS?
Usually not. The NHS says implants are usually only available privately, except in rare cases such as after mouth cancer or an accident.
What is All-on-4?
A full arch of fixed teeth held by four implants. All-on-6 uses six. All-on-4® is a trademark of Nobel Biocare. Read the full-arch guide.
Should I choose dentures or implants?
Dentures are cheaper and available on the NHS. Implants are fixed and don't slip, but need surgery and cost more. A denture that clips onto implants is a middle option. Compare them.
What should my quote include?
The implant brand, number of implants, abutments, temporary and final teeth, scans, any bone graft, hotel and transfers, the guarantee and your dentist's name. Use the quote checker.
Will a UK dentist look after my implants?
Many will, especially if you have your implant details and X-rays. Some prefer not to repair work done abroad, so ask before you go. Read the aftercare guide.
How long do implants last?
With good care, many years. The Oral Health Foundation says there is no lifetime guarantee, and the teeth on top may need replacing before the implants.
What are "Turkey teeth"?
A UK phrase for full sets of crowns or veneers done abroad. The main concern is healthy teeth being filed down. Implants are a different treatment. Read more.
Which is the best clinic in Turkey?
There's no official ranking, and most 'best clinic' lists are written by clinics or agents. Use our 20-point checklist to judge clinics yourself.
Do I need a visa?
Not with a British citizen passport, for visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your passport must be valid for at least 150 days after arrival. Check GOV.UK before you travel.
