Full-arch treatment

All-on-4 dental implants in Turkey, explained

If you've lost most of your teeth, or wear a full denture, a whole arch of fixed teeth can be held by just four to six implants. Here's how it works and what to check before you book.

Short answer

All-on-4 is a way of fixing a full arch of teeth (top or bottom) onto four implants, instead of one implant per tooth. All-on-6 uses six implants. The teeth are fixed in place and are not taken out at night like a denture. Whether four or six implants suit you depends on your jawbone, which can only be judged from a 3D scan.

What All-on-4 means

Normally, an implant replaces one tooth root. Replacing a whole arch that way would need many implants and, often, bone grafts. The All-on-4® treatment concept, developed by Nobel Biocare, fixes a full arch of teeth onto just four implants:

  • two implants placed upright at the front of the jaw
  • two implants at the back, placed at an angle to make the most of the available bone
  • a fixed bridge of teeth screwed onto all four

The teeth are fixed. You don't take them out to clean them or at night, as you would with a denture.

The right choice depends on your bone, your bite and the opposite jaw. A good dentist will explain their reasoning, and will tell you if neither is suitable.

Who it suits

A full arch on implants is often considered by people who:

  • have lost most or all of the teeth in one jaw
  • have remaining teeth that can't be saved
  • are unhappy with a loose or uncomfortable denture
  • want fixed teeth instead of removable ones

It may not be suitable, or may need extra care, if you have uncontrolled diabetes, active gum disease, are a heavy smoker, or take certain medicines that affect bone. Your dentist should ask about all of these. If you're still deciding between dentures and implants, read dentures or implants?

Temporary and final teeth

Treatment usually has two stages:

  1. Temporary teeth. Where the implants are held firmly enough, a fixed temporary bridge can often be fitted shortly after surgery. It is usually made of acrylic and is lighter, so it puts less force on the healing implants.
  2. Final teeth. After healing, usually a few months later, your final bridge is made and fitted on a second trip.

Final bridges come in different materials. Acrylic teeth on a metal frame cost less but wear faster. Zirconia or porcelain cost more and are harder-wearing. Ask which you're getting, as it makes a big difference to the price.

What your quote must say

  • the implant brand (not every "All-on-4" uses Nobel Biocare implants)
  • the number of implants per arch, and whether one or both jaws
  • whether extractions and any bone graft are included
  • the temporary teeth and the final teeth material
  • the number of trips and days
  • the guarantee on implants and on the bridge

Run it through our quote checker to see what's missing.

At Precious Dental we plan full-arch cases from a 3D scan and tell you in writing how many implants we recommend, which brand, and why. You leave with an implant passport and copies of your scans. Send us your X-ray for a written plan →

Common questions

Is All-on-4 or All-on-6 better?

Neither is better for everyone. Six implants spread the load over more supports, while four can work well where there is less bone. Your dentist should explain why they recommend one or the other for your jaw, based on a 3D scan.

Can I have All-on-4 if I've been told I don't have enough bone?

Possibly. The concept was developed partly to make use of the bone that is available, and angled implants at the back can sometimes avoid a bone graft. Only a 3D scan can show what is possible in your case.

Do I get teeth on the day of surgery?

Often a fixed temporary set can be fitted soon after surgery, but this depends on how firmly the implants are held in the bone. Your final teeth are usually fitted on a second trip, after healing.

How do I clean All-on-4 teeth?

They stay in your mouth, so you clean them every day like natural teeth, with special attention to the gap between the bridge and the gum. Your clinic should show you how, and you should see a hygienist regularly.

Is All-on-4 a brand?

All-on-4® is a registered trademark of Nobel Biocare. Many clinics use the name loosely for any full arch on four implants. Ask which implant brand will actually be used.
